Principal's Message

It’s a new school year and we are off to a great start.  New school years bring some of our favorite events, including but not limited too; welcoming back eager and energetic students and staff, our first school-wide House League activity, and our School Council sponsored Welcome Back BBQ.

For those that haven’t had the opportunity to witness, it has become a bit of a first day of school tradition for administration to greet students and staff on the tarmac from the rooftop.  It is inspiring to hear them join together in singing Oh Canada and gather around eagerly in anticipation for any other goodies that may come raining down from above.  As an educator, there is little better than experiencing the renewed excitement for learning on display that morning.

The energy spills over throughout the first few weeks, culminating in another tradition of our Welcome Back BBQ.  This year, with the support of our School Council and numerous parent volunteers, we were able to serve over 1200 meals to our families and those in our immediate community.  It goes without saying that this event wouldn’t be possible without the support and generosity of our Council and volunteers, as well as patience from our families as we try to serve everyone in a timely manner.

Just recently the school has participated in our Terry Fox run, and even though weather didn’t permit us to team with the South East Elementary school, we were still able to get out for some physical activity and raise over $1400 for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Other school-wide events include Orange Shirt Day on Monday September 30, where we honor Indigenous children sent away to residential schools in Canada, as well as a School Council sponsored Halloween dance on Thursday October 24.

Thank you to all that have helped get this year off to a tremendous start and continue with their support throughout the year.
